Honey Fruit Salsa & Buttery Cinnamon Chips Recipe

With Labor Day right around the corner, I have been non-stop researching recipes to bring. Let me tell you, It is never a simple cheese platter or jello dessert. I want to knock everyone's socks off and bring that element of surprise to the BBQ. In this ET recipe from the Baking Coach’s very own, Lisa Basini, she tells us how to make that special recipe that will leave everyone asking for more. We will be making a Honey Fruit Salsa and some Buttery Cinnamon Chips to pair on the side. So grab your cutting board and let's jump into the recipe! 


HONEY FRUIT SALSA


HERE IS WHAT YOU NEED: 

  • 2 cups of chopped strawberries
  • 1 cantaloupe chopped into ½ inch pieces 
  • 1 pineapple chopped into ½ inch pieces
  • 2 cups of blueberries
  • 1 ½ tablespoon of lime juice 
  • 1 cup of watermelon chopped into 1 inch pieces
  • 1 kiwi - peeled and sliced
  • ½ cup of honey OR ⅓ cup of sugar
  • 2 - 3 tablespoons of chili powder (depending on personal taste) 
  • 1 tablespoon of finely chopped cilantro 
  • 1 tablespoon of finely chopped mint 

HERE IS HOW YOU DO IT: 

  1. Combine all of your ingredients in a large mixing bowl all together.
  2. Add in your honey or sugar, and your chili powder (depending on personal taste preference) .
  3. Mix everything very well.
  4. Keep salsa refrigerated until ready to serve!


BUTTERY CINNAMON CHIPS


HERE IS WHAT YOU NEED

  • One 8.5-10.5 ounce bag of tortilla chips
  • ½ cup of melted unsalted butter
  • ½ cup of sugar
  • 1 ½ teaspoon of ground cinnamon 

HERE IS HOW YOU DO IT: 

  1. Preheat the oven to 450 degrees
  2. Prep 2 cookie sheets lined with parchment paper or aluminum foil, make sure you grease the aluminum foil well.
  3. Take a large mixing bowl and pour your tortilla chips inside the bowl. Take the melted butter and pour on top of the tortilla chips. Make sure the butter is well distributed. Once the butter is distributed on the chips, lay the chips down on the cookie sheets
  4. In another bowl, mix together the sugar and the cinnamon. Sprinkle the sugar mixture all over the tortilla chips. 
  5. Bake the tortilla chips for 5 minutes in the oven.
  6. Allow the chip to cool for 5 minutes before serving with the Honey Fruit Salsa!
