Lisa Basini

As Labor Day approaches, the quest for the perfect dish to bring to your BBQ begins! This year, I’m determined to impress my friends and family with something beyond the usual cheese platter or jello dessert. I want to create a show-stopping treat that adds a delightful surprise to the table. Inspired by an incredible recipe from Lisa Basini, our Baking Coach, I’m excited to share how to make a refreshing Honey Fruit Salsa paired with delicious Buttery Cinnamon Chips. Let’s dive in!

Honey Fruit Salsa

What You’ll Need

  • 2 cups chopped strawberries
  • 1 cantaloupe, chopped into ½-inch pieces
  • 1 pineapple, chopped into ½-inch pieces
  • 2 cups blueberries
  • 1½ tablespoons lime juice
  • 1 cup watermelon, chopped into 1-inch pieces
  • 1 kiwi, peeled and sliced
  • ½ cup honey (or ⅓ cup sugar)
  • 2-3 tablespoons chili powder (adjust to taste)
  • 1 tablespoon finely chopped cilantro
  • 1 tablespoon finely chopped mint

How to Make It

  1. In a large mixing bowl, combine all the chopped fruits: strawberries, cantaloupe, pineapple, blueberries, watermelon, and kiwi.
  2. Add in the honey or sugar, along with the chili powder. Adjust the chili powder according to your personal taste.
  3. Mix everything well until all the ingredients are evenly coated.
  4. Refrigerate the salsa until you’re ready to serve. This allows the flavors to meld beautifully!

Buttery Cinnamon Chips

What You’ll Need

  • 1 bag (8.5-10.5 ounces) of tortilla chips
  • ½ cup melted unsalted butter
  • ½ cup sugar
  • 1½ teaspoons ground cinnamon

How to Make It

  1. Preheat your oven to 450°F (230°C).
  2. Prepare two cookie sheets lined with parchment paper or greased aluminum foil.
  3. In a large mixing bowl, pour in the tortilla chips. Drizzle the melted butter over the chips, making sure to distribute it evenly.
  4. In another bowl, mix together the sugar and ground cinnamon. Sprinkle this mixture generously over the buttered tortilla chips.
  5. Bake the chips in the preheated oven for about 5 minutes, or until they’re golden and fragrant.
  6. Allow the chips to cool for about 5 minutes before serving them alongside the Honey Fruit Salsa.
